Sidney High School students will be starting another year of learning on Wednesday, and it’ll be in their brand new building. The 107,000 square-foot school opened to the public on Friday afternoon with a dedication ceremony and open house for the public.
State Senator Ken Schilz spoke to the crowd and said, “All of you made this possible. This is quite an achievement for a rural community. But, then again, this is Sidney. You guys always seem to be bucking the trend. I’m proud to be standing here with you today in celebration.”
Walking through the halls Friday, there were several smiling faces and anxious children and parents peeking into the new classrooms, which many teachers have decorated with themes.
The performing arts center is still being finished and isn’t open yet. Also, Sidney High varsity volleyball will still be played at the middle school gym until all of the bleacher seats are bought and installed in the new gym. (Dave Collins 8/17 for KSID Radio)
