Gale Garner 1961 - 2023

 Gale G. Garner, 62, formerly of Tryon, Nebraska, died Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Monument Rehab and Care in Scottsbluff. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. Memorials may be made in care of the family and will be designated at a later date. The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Gale’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com

Gale was born March 7, 1961, in Sidney, Nebraska to Harry and Emmaline (Teeter) Garner. He grew up on a dairy farm near Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School. Gale milked cows on the family farm and worked odd jobs on other farms following high school.

He married Tylene Rae Black on January 31, 1993, and the couple welcomed three children: Katrina, Cole, and Emmalee. The family lived in North Platte for some time and later made their home in Tryon for eleven years. They moved to Scottsbluff in 2021 when Gale’s health declined. 

Gale was a talented welder and perfected his skills on various welding projects over the years. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing with the boys. He liked cooking and was a very good chef, however, clean-up duties were not his specialty.

Making friends and meeting people came easy to Gale. He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold, helping anyone in any way possible. His easy-going personality was adored by many. He delighted in bringing smiles to the faces of his family and friends with his jokes and orneriness. 

Survivors include his wife, Tylene Garner of Scottsbluff; children, Katrina Garner of Kansas and Cole Garner of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Wyatt and Bella McConville of Scottsbluff; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Toby (Julie) Black of Morrill, NE, Tammy (Kevin) May of Brady, NE, and Todd (Chris) Black of Grand Island, NE; mother-in-law, Sandra Black of Tryon; cousin, Chuck (Angela) Acker of Strasburh, CO; along with other extend relatives and friends.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Emmaline; brother, Thomas Garner; and infant daughter, Emmalee Garner.

Class of 1979 Plans A 45th Get Together

Plans to have a 45th get together will be held during the 2024 Oktoberfest.  Current plans are to meet up for the Class of '79 parade for a Class float.  After the parade, plans are to meet at Boss City Brewing for a few cocktails and hellos!

Glenda Roach Koros 1961-2024

Glenda Koros, 63, passed on August 19, 2024, at Polaris Nursing Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Services will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at The Rock Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and officiated by Rev. Mike Erdman. Graveside will be a Sunset Memorial Park at a later date. A memorial has been established to Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel.

Glenda was born March 29, 1961, in Sidney, Nebraska. She was the second child of 4 children born to Glenn and Anna (Buss) Roach.

She attended school in Sidney, and then went to college in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where she obtained her CNA license. She worked at Northfield Villa nursing home in Gering, Nebraska. She worked many years with the office of aging. After that, she did some private nursing throughout the community. 

She truly enjoyed working with all of her patients.

Glenda married Jerry Koros in November of 2006. Glenda and Jerry never had any children of their own so when the opportunity arose to foster their niece Brooke, they took her in at the age of 12. Brooke was killed in a car accident at the age of 20. Their other niece Rochelle lived with them for a while as well.

Glenda loved her dogs dearly. She also enjoyed in a nightly Bible study with a group of her lady friends that she looked forward to every night. She enjoyed traveling with Jerry to Vegas to see his family. She took many day trips with her sister Nora and her friend Christie took her on many shopping trips to Cheyenne. She also enjoyed going to the dog races with her husband Jerry and sister Diane. Glenda had such a jovial personality and loved her friends dearly. She will be missed by them all.

She is survived by two sisters, Nora (Doug) Nickell of Fr. Morgan, Colorado and Diane (Mitch) of Greeley, Colorado. Nieces and nephews Crystal Nickell, Christopher Nickell, Cory Nickell, Dustin Brungardt, Brian Clark and Rochelle Linn. Also, several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her husband Jerry, parents Anna and Glenn, sister Barbara Clark, and niece Brooke Clark.

Jay was born on March 23, 1961 in Holdrege, NE. He was a Class of '79 graduate of Sidney High School and went on to receive his degree at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln where he majored in English and History. He was most recently employed by Cabela's/Quad Graphics. His hobbies included Sidney/UNL history, movies and computers.
He is survived by: father, Leo (Elaine) Front Royal, VA; brother Marcus (Tammy) of Omaha, NE; sister Arlene (David) of Chadron, NE; step-sister Crystal Cline (George) Front Royal, VA and step-sister Cara Bogard (Mike) of Kearney, NE as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jay was preceded in death by his mother Dianne (Upthagrove) Brown and nephew Jeremy Barowsky. As what can only be explained as God's mysterious ways, his brother Ted Allen Noble, age 49 passed away the same morning in Holdrege, NE.

Alan L. Hartzler, age 58, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at home in Sidney, NE.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 10, 2019 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Wayne Pouppirt officiating. Alan Lee Hartzler was born on June 14, 1961 to Michael and Gladys (Onken) Hartzler. Alan graduated from Sidney High School in 1979. On August 27, 1983 Alan was united in marriage to Mickie Hoban.
Alan enjoyed being active. He could be found hunting, fishing, and camping with his wife. Alan loved baseball, basketball, softball and most of all, Husker Football. When Magen and Marcus were in high school Alan was actively involved with their activities. He loved attending Magen’s cheerleading activities. Alan not only attended the games Marcus participated in, but was involved himself by being a Sidney High School chain official on the sidelines of those games and he formed a special bond with the youth basketball team he coached. Alan’s children and grandchildren, extended family, and friends meant the world to him.
Alan had a passion for the community and was a past volunteer firefighter in Sidney and a past member of the Sidney Jaycee’s. Over the years, Alan received many awards from Cabela’s for his outstanding service. He had been employed with Ideal Linen and most recently started working for UPS.
Alan is survived by his wife Mickie; his daughter; Magen Hartzler and boyfriend Uriah Bankes and son: Marcus Hartzler and girlfriend Halee Emerson, two grandchildren; Kaiden Shatto of Douglas, WY and Millee Hartzler of Bennington, NE, his parents: Michael and Gladys Hartzler of Sidney; his two brothers: Steve Hartzler and wife, Angie, of Sidney, and Brad Hartzler of Bedford, TX, one sister; Traci Brachtenbach and husband, Larry, of Casper, WY, mother-in-law; Marolyn Hoban of North Platte, NE, two brothers-in-law; Andy Hoban and wife Elery of Nixa, MO and Tony Schultz of North Platte, NE, (2) sisters-in-law; Amber Hoban of North Platte, NE and Lori Hartzler of North Richland Hills, TX, many nieces and nephews and special friends.

Class of 1979 Class Reunion - 40 Years!

Terry J Brauer 1960 - 2018

Terry James Brauer, 58, of Sidney Nebraska, entered the gates of heaven on June 13, 2018 at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland Colorado.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday June 23^rd at 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Sidney Nebraska.

Memorials in Terry’s name can be sent to the family at 1328 Maple Street in Sidney Nebraska, in lieu of flowers.

Terry Brauer was born on June 4, 1960 to Paul Herman Brauer and Connie June (Phillips) Brauer, in Sidney Nebraska.  Growing up he had the privilege of having a “brother from another mother,” big John, his cousin and one of his best buddies.  They made many memories together.  He grew up with a large fun-loving family of 6 kids, with never a dull moment. He attended Sidney Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1979. While he was in high school he enjoyed the sport of wrestling, which carried on with his grandson Cameron who Terry thoroughly enjoyed cheering on.  After graduation, he spent much time with his older sister, Patty, helping her care for her oldest child, Brandon.

On July 10^th, 1980 he met the love of his life, Dustin, who he always called his “bride.” On October 18, 1980 they were married.  Terry then went to work for Convert-A-Ball (Master Trading) in June of 1980 where he worked for 30 years, along-side his father.  While working for Master Trading, his kids remember him telling them the story of him fabricating frames for boxing rings. These rings were for the Tough Wear Company, which were used in the Rocky movies.  During this time, he also spent late hours working from home in his garage doing auto body and paint.  Terry worked hard, working multiple jobs at one time, so he could provide for his family and help his wife as she worked on her nursing degree.  On August 25^th, 1981 his oldest child, Casey Brauer, was born.  He was his only son and one of his best friends.  In the mid 80’s, Terry and his father also started a roofing business called Brauer roofing. On July 23, 1984 his first daughter, Ashley Brauer (De Los Santos), was born.  Terry always talked about how proud he was of Ashley for not only going to college after high school but starting grad school to pursue her dreams.  In 1984, Terry and Dustin purchased their forever home, which they have lived in for 34 years.  Terry remodeled the home from top to bottom to make it their “home sweet home.” On February 3^rd, 1990 his baby girl, Paige Brauer (Lohman) was born.  Paige moved back home 6 months ago, and Terry and Paige spent every day together making great memories.

Terry will always be remembered as a loving generous person. His ornery teasing nature and sense of humor is something everyone will never forget.  He was a genuine man, who always worked very hard until his body would no longer allow him to, forcing him into early retirement.  Terry always put others before himself.  With Terry, you always knew where you stood with him.  The last 10 years of his life he enjoyed watching his grandkids grow and compete in sports.

Terry is survived by his wife Dustin Brauer, son Casey (Celeste) Brauer, daughter Ashley (Matthew) De Los Santos, daughter Paige (Jeremy) Lohman, grandchildren Collin, Cameron and Carissa Brauer, Uriah, Micah and Alijah De Los Santos, and Jeremy Jr. and Damien Lohman. His sisters Patty (Alan) Arps, Tammy (Kelly) Tilbury, and Teresa (Chris) White.  Brother, Todd (Linda) Brauer.  Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Paul Brauer, mother, Connie Brauer, brothers Greg and Mike Brauer, and in laws Kenneth and Donna Pebley. Terry impacted more people than he realized and will be greatly missed.

J R Frederick Portenier 1961-2016

J R F. Portenier, 55 of Peetz passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at his home in Peetz. A Pot Luck Memorial will be on January 7 from noon to 4 pm at the Sidney Shelter House in Sidney, NE.

J R was born on September 1, 1961 in Seattle, Washington to Ron and Virginia Portenier. He received his associates in engineering from WACC. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, fishing, spending time with friends, his dog Buddy and his grandchildren.

J R is survived by his father Ron Portenier; sons David and Dennis; daughter Desireau (Jesse) Olson; grandchildren Preston, Jake, Porsha, Ashlee, Kyson; siblings Jay (Rhonda) Portenier, Kathy (Don) Hickox, Mark (Jennifer) Portenier, Dirk Portenier, Linda (Dan) House.

He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Portenier, brothers Timothy and Bruce Portenier, and sister Ronha Nadeau.

Carol Olson 1961 - 2014

Carol Olson, 52 of Sidney, Nebraska died early Saturday morning, April 26, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 2, 2014 in the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Scott Bloomquist of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Carol Lynn Olson, the daughter of Robert Frank and Sharon Kay (Lambert) Deaver was born July 24, 1961 at Sidney, Nebraska. She attended the Sidney public schools, graduating from Sidney High School in 1979. After graduation she worked as a bus girl at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel for a short time before going to work at Cabela’s where she was employed for thirty-three years. On May 22, 1983 she was united in marriage to Eddie Olson and to this union a son, Jesse was born. Carol was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She cherished her grandchildren. Her greatest gifts in life were her family and friends. She always had a smile on her face, didn’t know a stranger and always spoke to everyone. Survivors include her husband Eddie; son Jesse and wife Desireau; grandchildren: Preston, Jake, Porscha, Ashley and Kyson; brother Donald Deaver; sister Patty Frerichs and husband Randy; parents Robert and Sharon Deaver and in-laws Arnold and Shirley Olson all of Sidney, Nebraska.

In Memory of Wilbert Higuchi 1930-2014

Wilbert Shogo Higuchi was born on December 28, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Taiichi and Hitoye Higuchi. He attended McKinley High School and it was there that he developed his love of volleyball and orchids. He attended University of Hawaii for a period of time, but then learned of a program that brought him to Chadron, Nebraska to attend Chadron State Teacher's College where he completed his Bachelor' Degree in Education.

He willingly enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served dutifully in Korea. Upon completion of his enlistment, he continued in government service as Director of   Education for the Armed Forces in Northern Japan. He met and married Sachiko Tada during his time in Japan.

He chose to return to Nebraska to pursue his lifelong love of teaching, and after refreshing his teaching certificate at Chadron, relocated to Sidney in 1967. He received his Masters degree from Chadron State College in 1972. He was a lifelong advocate for education at all levels. During his tenure at Sidney High School, he was an active sponsor of National Honor Society and Science Club as well as the volleyball coach for a period of time. He could also be seen at the numerous wrestling matches where he was the timekeeper and score keeper as well as the football and basketball games. Once the weather became nice in the spring, he would gather his "boys" and could be seen at various yards in the city where he hoped his love of plants could be passed on to others. He retired from Sidney Public Schools in 1996.

He was also an active member of the Nebraska State Education Association and was a strong advocate for people in the education field. He was active in the community through the Red Cross where he was a CPR instructor, on the Tree Board, was an instructor in the GED program, and participated in other community beautification projects. He hosted several foreign exchange students as well. He was plagued by multiple physical difficulties and finally succumbed to his multiple illnesses on April 13, 2014.

Survivors include his two daughters: Claire Ash of Billings, MT and Deb Higuchi of Ashland, NE; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four sisters and a brother, all of Hawaii.

Rebecca Sue Martinez Robinson Everingim, 51 of Sidney, Nebraska died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at her home near Sidney surrounded by her family.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sidney with Pastor Jim Nichols officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends may stop by the funeral home on Tuesday to sign the book. A memorial in Becky’s name has been established to the Night Of Hope. Rebecca Sue Martinez Robinson Everingim was born on October 8, 1960 to Johnny V. and Alfreda M. (Haukaas) Martinez in Columbus, Georgia. As a military child she traveled much of her young life until the family settled in Sidney. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1979. She earned her Associated of Arts degree in 2001 from WNCC and graduated Phi Theta Kappa. She went on to earn a paralegal degree in 2007 from PCDI/Ashworth University. She was united in marriage in 1979 and was blessed with 3 children from this union: Rebecca “Brooke” Robinson, Richard “Brett” Robinson, and Brittney Rochelle Robinson. She was united as one with Nick Everingim on August 23, 2012. With this joining she was blessed with a step son, Brian T. Everingim of Colorado Springs, CO Becky worked for Cheyenne Constructors, Boys and Girls Home of Nebraska, and Cabela’s for over 20 years. Her passion was spending time with loved ones. She loved to read, puzzles of all kinds, coloring, camping, walks and taking short trips. She was a member of the Sidney Seventh Day Adventist Church. Survivors include her spouse, Nicholas C. Just enough so that he may know our voices as he tries to open his eyes, he is at 40% oxigen and they are going to wait a couple of days to put him on dialasis. They are backing down more on sedation. Jay will start dialysis on sunday. His temp is still high dispite antibotics.

For those of you wanting an update on my brother Jay Lee Noble 's condition. This is the text message I recieved from my sister-in-law at 4:40 pm Mountain time this afternoon. ... Dialysis removed 3 liters of fluids this morning. May have it done again tomorrow. Breathing tests went well, removed the ventilator, and feeding tube. On oxygen and having a breathing treatment now. Echocardiogram showed EF of 25. This was EF of 11 with the heart pump inserted in his heart. He no longer has the heart pump inserted. They removed the Fem-stop this afternoon and the catheter. He seems to understand where and why is in the hospital. He can understand verbal commands. He is weak on the left side. All in all he is doing much better. I wish to thank all of you for your concern and all your prayers. He is not totally out of the woods so Keep Jay in your hearts and prayers. Again thank you all and God Bless you all for your prayers.
